Tours

The museum offers guided tours of its exhibitions. During the tour, you can learn about the history of the collection, the museum's legends and hear more about the most interesting anatomical specimens. The tour lasts 45 min.

Is the museum suitable for children?

The museum is intended for visitors from the age of 14. Younger visitors are also welcome to visit the Anatomy Museum, but it should be noted that the museum's exhibits include organs, body parts and embryos, including pathological specimens, so part of the exhibition may be distressing to younger visitors. It is recommended that children under the age of 14 only visit accompanied by an adult.

Accessibility

The museum is accessible to people with disabilities (there is an elevator, there are no steps at the entrance and it is possible to drive right up to the museum).

Exhibition

Our exhibits consist of real skeletons, embryos, bones, body parts and organs that are accompanied by a multimedia description. The museum's exhibition is 300 m2 in size and laid out on two floors. On the first floor of the museum, you can learn about human organs and their anatomy and see the museum's collection of craniums. The museum's underground floor contains collections of congenital anomalies as well as the open collection of the museum can be seen. An individual tour of the exhibition takes about an hour.

The embryology and teratology collections on the underground floor of the museum may be disturbing to some visitors. Please consider whether you want to visit the parts of the exposition located in the basement!

Photography and filming

Photography and filming for educational and personal purposes are only allowed on the museum’s first floor, any professional photoshoots have to be coordinated with the museum beforehand. Photography and filming are not permitted in the underground exhibition, where the congenital anomalies collection is located! Please respect above mentioned restrictions! However, sketching and drawing is allowed and encouraged in the entire museum! 

Mobile app

The RSU Museum mobile app can help visitors familiarise themselves with the museum. It highlights 20 interesting museum exhibits in an interactive way. The app can be downloaded to your personal device (smartphone or tablet) or used with devices that can be rented at the museum.

Using the app

The Anatomy Museum app will give you the opportunity to learn more about the most interesting exhibits in the museum. Once you have downloaded the app, come to the museum and find the QR codes of the exhibits that have been highlighted. Scanning the code will give you access to additional information about the exhibit in question, learn its history, delve into the anatomy and hear expert comments.

Offline

The app's contents become fully available during the museum exposition visit. Once you scan a  QR code, the section of the app dedicated to this exhibit will stay available to you after visiting the museum as well as offline.

20 exciting exhibits

The museum displays anatomical preparations, organs and body parts, which were made in the 1920s and 1930s by anatomists for medical students. Even today, these preparations can help us get to know the diversity of human anatomy and the development of the field. The 20 exciting exhibits featured in the app provide an overview of the exhibition's main topics while still being unique and with its own unusual story.

The museum is located in the anatomical building complex in Riga on 9 Kronvalda bulvāris (next to Kronvalda Park). To access the museum, use the gated entrance from Kronvalda bulvāris.
