WET SPECIMENS. During this class we will draw the so-called “wet preparations” using water colours and colour pencils.

Artist Laimdota Malle: “This setting will probably be the most challenging one during our drawing classes, because we will work both with the construction of forms and painting techniques. At first we will create small sketches and then continue with a long term painting using water colours or drawing. There will be settings of different levels of complexity and we will study examples of students' and artists' works.”

The specimens are referred to as “wet”, because they are stored in a preservative solution in hermetically sealed glass containers, where they can remain even for hundreds of years. Most often the soft tissue — various organs, body parts or even whole bodies (for example, embryos) — are preserved in this way. Historically a solution of formalin was used to preserve the specimens. Nowadays, specialists of the museum use a harmless glycerol-based Kaiserling III solution.

In anatomy or art, no prior knowledge is necessary. Take the drawings created during the lessons with you and surprise your family and friends!

The workshop fee is 25 EUR (including all necessary materials and light refreshments).
Tickets can be purchased here.
Event time: April 4th, from 17:30 to 19:30
Age: from 14 years old.
Limited number of participants (up to 20).

Laimdota Malle has graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University Master’s programme in the United Kingdom and the Master’s programme of the Latvian Academy of Art. Presently Laimdota Malle is the residing artist in the RSU Anatomy Museum.
